Western New York Ultra News  |  2010 Series Race Calendar  | Other Ultras in Region

bullet Green Lake Endurance Runs (50K & 100K):  It was cool for the early laps enabling many new 50K age group records and a very high finish rate.  The afternoon was unseasonably warm, still 23 runners finished the 100K and two records were set.
50K - Brian Rusiecki (3:35:30) / Amy Lane (4:20:30).  Brian Rusierki and Amy Lane (both age 31, both from Westfield, MA) were the Open (18-39) division winners.  Jeff Nelson (age 45) finished third overall in 3:45:59 and set a new race record for Masters Men (40-49).  Shannon McHale (age 40) finished third woman in 4:20:57, breaking the Masters Women record.  Ed Housel (age 51) broke his own Grandmaster (50-59) record finishing sixth overall in 4:00:43.  Yet another record was set by Nancy Kleinrock (age 50), finishing fifth among the women and taking over an hour off the prior Grandmaster (50-59) record.  Pat Riccardi (age 60) finished in 5:26:34, winning the 60+ Senior Grandmaster division in the second fastest age 60+ time on the course.  Click here for results for all 103 50k finishers.
100K - Joshua Finger (9:02:12) / Elizabeth Mainiero (10:38:18).  Joshua Finger (age 37) won the Open Men (18-39) division with a fine time despite the hot day.  Elizabeth Mainiero (age 49) was the overall woman winner and broke the prior Open Women's record by 39 minutes.  Randy Miller (age 51) broke his own record in winning the Grandmaster Men (50-59) division in 9:52:15, closely followed by Canadian Paul Chenery (age 53) in 9:57:50.  Matt Chaffin was the first Masters Man in 9:56:15.  Click here for results for all 23 100k finishers.
Series Standings After GLER:  The Series Coordinator is on vacation.  Check back on September 5th.
bulletFinger Lakes Fifties (50k and 50 mile):  Record fields inaugurated the changed course.  Cows were seen.
50k - Christopher Bynum (4:56:28) / Amy Lane (5:01:50).  The overall race win was extremely close for both men and women.  Christopher Bynum (age 30) finished only 14 seconds ahead of Matthew Reynolds (age 39).  Matt Wilson (age 48) finished 3rd overall and 1st Masters Men in 5:00:37, just over 4 minutes back of the race winner.  Amy Lane (age 30) finished 4th overall and first woman only 33 seconds in front of Nancy Kleinrock (age 50) who was the 5th overall finisher and a runaway winner of the Veteran Women category.  A record 118 runners finished the 50k.
50 mile - Brian Rusiecki (6:46:30) / Frances Davis (9:16:22).  Brian Rusiecki (age 31) won in a strong sub-7 hour effort.  Jack Pilla was also under 7 hours with a remarkable 6:54:21 finish at age 52.  Joshua Finger (age 37) also got close to 7 hours with a strong 7:12:49 finish.  Frances Davis (age 31) was the top woman.  Natalie Kremer (age 28) finished less than 6 minutes later in 9:21:49.  Notably two women age 50 and one woman age 62 finished the 50 mile this year.

bulletHighland Forest 1 2 3 - Ed Housel (4:32:21) / Nancy Kleinrock (4:52:07)
Veteran runners ruled the 12th running of the Highland Forest 1 2 3.  It was a rather warm day and, with the warm spring and end of May race date, the grass was overgrown.  But that didn't slow down Ed Housel (age 51) and Nancy Kleinrock (age 50).  Housel prevailed by 18 minutes over Joel Cisne who took the Open Men category in 4:50:19.  Kleinrock was the 3rd overall finisher in a new Veteran Women record time.  Shannon Cuting ran a fine race, just missing getting under 5 hours with her 4th overall and Masters Woman win in 5:01:38.  Tom Nesterick was the top Masters Man, finishing 5th overall in 5:07:29.  Click here for full results.  Click here for Tom Perry's 200+ photos from the race
bulletMind the Ducks 12 Hour - Mark Seigers (87.256 miles) / Erin Osetek (66.667 miles)
On a perfect day for running, records were set in all categories of this inaugural event.  Open runners Mark Seigers and Frank Leiter (81.373 miles) both went over 80 miles for what will be two of the best 12 hour performances in the country.  Ed Housel (age 51) and Bill McGovern (age 50) showed that old guys can run far too with 75.001 and 71.569 miles respectively.  Erin Osetek ran a steady race and was unchallenged for the women's win after the first five hours.  Rebecca Schaefer ran slightly negative splits for the twelve hours for a come from behind 2nd place with 59.804 miles.  Click here for results and race reports.  Click here for Tom Perry's 300+ photos from the race.
bulletBPAC 6 Hour Distance Classic - Matt Chaffin (42.25 miles) / Jill Perry (41.09  miles)
It rained for almost the entire six hours, making for a wet celebration of the 30th anniversary of ultrarunning in Buffalo.  Matt Chaffin was the first overall finisher and the Masters Men category winner.  Canadian Paul Chenery finished second overall and first in the Veteran Men category with 41.28 miles.  Jill Perry finished third overall and first in the Open Women category.  Robert McMahon was the Open Men category winner with 39.00 miles.  Christine Reynolds won the Masters Women category with 32.50 miles.  Amy Bryan was the Veteran Women category winner with 32.38 miles.  Despite the difficult conditions, 44 runners finished 8 laps (26.00 miles) or more.  Click here for Overall Results.  Click here for Individual Splits.  Click here for Tom Perry's 300+ photos of the event.
bulletBeast of Burden Winter 100 Mile & 24 Hour Ultra:  Snow and more snow and some amazing performances on the last weekend of February at Lockport, NY.
